Podcast - Angelica Fuentes Garcia

Our guest on this episode of the podcast is rally racer extraordinaire Angelica Fuentes Garcia. Now a professional co-driver and navigator, Angelica has competed in La Carrera Panamericana 22 times. She took the overall win in 2006 with her teammate Gabriel Perez and has scored numerous stage wins and podiums along the way.

Born and raised in Mexico in a racing family, Angelica has raced and rallied all over the world. She began racing as a teenager and completed in her first Carrera Panamericana in 1992. Today she is one of the most sought after co-drivers in the world of historic rally racing.

A warm and charming person, I first struck-up a conversation with Angelica on Instagram, chatting about that other Mexican rally, the Chihuahua Express. People talk about the spirit of La Carrera—its passion, its community, its pride— and I can’t think of anyone who embodies that better than Angelica. At the same time she is a fierce competitor who is meticulous with her preparation and confident in her skills.

I was lucky enough to get some time to talk with her from her home in London. I apologize in advance for the less than perfect audio quality.

Navigating La Bufa

Here’s a sample of Angelica’s work from the 2014 Carrera when she and Doug Mockett made the run over the famed La Bufa.

Morris - The MiniSprint

Every racer needs a hot car. He’s a great piece about Angelica’s beloved Minisprint, Morris.

Mexican Rally Navigator Angelica Fuentes Garcia and her Husband Keith Mainland consider themselves lucky to the same passion for motorsport. It's what brought them together at the La Carrera Panamericana in Mexico 17 years ago and is what has now manifested itself in their Mini Sprint, which they take on events where they reside in the UK.
